Polyurethane tactile indicators look alike in a catalogue photograph. The differences that matter (compound quality, dimensional accuracy, colour consistency and the supplier's ability to deliver on time) only show up on site or years later. This checklist helps you separate a manufacturer from a trader before you commit a project to them.
Ask where the moulding is done and whether you can visit or see production video. A manufacturer controls the compound, the tooling and the lead time; a trader controls none of them. MetalX moulds all PU studs, strips and tiles at its own factory in Mumbai.
Request a material data sheet covering hardness, tensile strength, abrasion resistance, UV stabilisation and service temperature. A thermoset polyurethane elastomer rated for −20 °C to +70 °C is appropriate for indoor and covered outdoor use. Be cautious of unspecified “plastic” or recycled PVC sold as PU.
Ask for a dimensioned drawing. Warning domes should be about 35 mm across the top and 4–5 mm high at 50 mm centres; directional bars 35 mm wide, 4–5 mm high, at 75 mm centres. These align with AS/NZS 1428.4.1 and ISO 23599; ADA projects need a truncated-dome profile with a 23–36 mm base. A serious manufacturer will hold tooling for the profile you need.
Surface-coloured or painted indicators lose contrast as they wear. Cut a sample in half; the colour should be uniform throughout. Also check that studs, strips and tiles ordered in the same colour actually match; they should come from the same compound batch.
You will need stem-fixed versions for drilled installation and 3M self-adhesive versions for retrofit, plus screw-fix or self-adhesive tiles. A manufacturer that offers only one option will limit your design.
Fibreboard templates for 50 mm and 75 mm spacing save installers hours and avoid misaligned rows. MetalX includes them free with every order.

For projects outside India, confirm the manufacturer handles export packing, commercial invoices, certificates of origin and courier or sea freight. A Government of India recognised Export House, such as MetalX, has this process in place.
A manufacturer confident in its product will send samples of each colour and format so you can test adhesion on your actual floor and check contrast.
Most projects need stainless steel at the entrance and platform edge as well as PU inside. A manufacturer that makes stainless steel, brass and aluminium indicators to the same geometry lets you source the whole project from one supplier.
